the blue… [day 2]

marina kanavaki's avatarMarina Kanavaki

Second day of my ‘blue’ week. While charging up my batteries I absorb as much as I can from this beautiful place…

Sea patterns…

Two seagulls enjoying the sun

Evia island peeking behind Theologos village [Fthiotis – Greece]

…more sea patterns

Another beautiful tree by the sea

Two pine trees embracing the blue sea

Sun going down as the day fades…

Admiring nature’s painting

Sea patterns changing…

What a view…

A boat moving towards the sunset

…and yet another sea pattern!

…more boats gathering.

Wishing everyone a beautiful Wednesday!

Friday Night Poetry Corner #231—Reflections by Jane Njeri Ngugi

K.G. Bethlehem...'s avatarKG Bethlehem

Good evening everyone and welcome to another Friday Night Poetry Corner.

Before I begin, just give me a moment to talk about a good friend who passed away so quickly, abruptly that left such a hole in her loved ones’ hearts. This includes her brilliant, thoughtful 13-year son.

Her name is Jane Njeri Ngugi.

Jane was one of the most beloved, smart, passionate, thoughtful human beings I have had the distinctive honor of meeting and forming a close bond. We were a couple for a while, and even when we broke up, we were still good friends and loved each other. She spent most of her adult life fighting for people’s rights who had been done wrong by any authority. She also studied in various universities across the world and among her studies was writing. Jane left his realm of existence on June 20th of 2020.

Jane was a fantastic…

On Location Series #22–Swallows Falls State Park

K.G. Bethlehem...'s avatarKG Bethlehem

The park had its early development in 1906 with the donation by John and Robert Garrett of Baltimore of 1,917 acres. The intention for such a gift was to be used for the creation of a state forest. The land now known as Garrett State Forest comprised the areas that became Swallow Falls and Herrington Manor state parks, both of which were established in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

So much for the history of this park—now for my observations.
Swallow Falls State Park is one of the most beautiful parks I ever have seen in person. Crazy enough, the trails were not anything to be excited about from when I first enter the wooded area. There was one main trail, and small walkways (with wooden stairs) that led to the several waterfalls in the area, three total. You can hover around the top while looking down at…

On Location Series Washington Monument State Park #21

K.G. Bethlehem...'s avatarKG Bethlehem

Built-in 1827, the initial tower was the first monument dedicated to George Washington. The Washington Monument in Baltimore was completed two years later, but it started earlier in 1815. The more known Washington Monument in the District of Columbia was not finished until 1885.

Another well-known fact in regards to this park, Owen Brown, the son of abolitionist John Brown and the highest-ranking surviving, uncaptured member of the party assembled for John Brown’s Raid on Harpers Ferry. He led a party of five escapees from the failed raid to safety in the north. On the night of October 23, 1859 these men ascended the slope of South Mountain after circling Turner’s Gap to avoid the men and dogs lying in wait for them in the mountain pass. To their surprise, there on the crest of the mountain was a stone tower. Owen Brown spoke about the experience during his only…

Are We Shining as Lights?

Philippians 2:12-13 ESV

“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”

In the verses prior to this, we read that we are to be of one mind and of one love with Christ and with our brothers and sisters in Christ who are also of one mind and one love as that of Christ. We are not to do anything out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility we are to consider others and their legitimate needs as more significant than ourselves and that of our own interests, following the example of Jesus Christ.

Therefore (a cause and effect), we are to do these things, because if we…

Psalm 103:1-5 ESV

“Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

Amen! Thank you, Jesus! Yes! And, all that is within me bless his holy name. All, not part, but the whole. With all my emotion, thought, passion, heart, mind, body, time, talents, gifts, and any other resources the Lord has given to me, I want to give him praise and glory for the things he has done.

Wow! This is such a wonderful description of God’s amazing grace to us in the gift of his Son given for us to…

For Our Nation

Sue Love's avatarRun With It

War, politics, lies, betrayal, the murdering of innocents, our young men and women in uniform dying on a battle field via men of power; takeovers of nations, riots and lawlessness, sin abounding, the church asleep or complacent for the most part; the gospel diluted, and do we even notice?

Through all that is going on in this world of ours, Jesus is gently calling us to Him to make him Lord (master) of our lives. The good news is that God is in absolute control over all things, and he will work it all out for our good. We need to pray much for our nation.

“Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods” (Ps. 40:4).

“So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer…
