Kitchen Calamity

abandoned-kitchen (1)When was this kitchen used last?
The sight of it has me aghast.
Look at the orange slime; what’s the cause?
It’s either rust or pasta sauce.
I can’t see the windows, only holes in the wall.
The condition of this kitchen has me appalled.
My advice to you is to tear it apart
or try passing it off as modern art.

Maple Tree

Written for:  dVerse Poets Pub – Meeting The Bar:  Critique and Craft  (posted by Frank Hubeny) – Imitation Practice
“The prompt today is to identify some poetic technique, theme or style that you enjoy and would like to try yourself by imitating it. Let us know what it is you are trying to practice or imitate. Some of us may want to try imitating it ourselves after seeing what you find enjoyable in a poem.”

(Inspired by The Rubaiyat by Omar Khayyam)

The maple tree, grown so high
was home to many birds, and I
did love to watch them flutter.
Seemed that branches touched the sky.

One morning after storm, I uttered
a cry when I saw my tree cluttered
with fallen limbs, all broken.
I knew I’d soon see a woodcutter.

A sense of being heart-broken
came over me. The charcoal sky betokened
another day of gusty winds.

Surreal-Paintings “After the Rain” by Cyril Rolando

From Eyeland I see fir trees spread
far apart. An uncertain woman
stands on a bridge. Seems stuck.
Muck below the bridge had churned-
turned to a river of tears, my own.

Easy Homemade Chicken Fried Rice

sparkleese's avatarSparkleese

Hey everyone!

One of my favorite foods to eat is Chicken Fried Rice. It’s so yummy and has vegetables, it’s salty, and it can be a side dish or a main dish. What is there not to love? Yes, I know it’s easy and affordable to order Chicken Fried Rice from your local takeout restaurant, but I prefer to prepare my meals at home. Plus, I can add anything I want and how much I want to it. Here is my version that is easy, tasty and everyone is sure to love it!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups uncooked brown or white rice (I used brown)
  • 2 cups water
  • 10 oz. frozen vegetables (I used a mix of corn, peas, carrots and carrots)
  • 1 medium sized boneless chicken breast
  • 4 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp. onion powder
  • vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp. seasoned salt
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • salt and pepper…

Green Chile Chicken Enchiladas

sparkleese's avatarSparkleese

Green Chile Chicken Enchiladas are a New Mexican dish that are so delicious! They are made differently everywhere but casserole style is the easiest and my personal favorite way. Casserole style is my favorite becase it’s the fastest and can feed a whole lot of people! Well, an entire family for sure. Green Chile Chicken Enchiladas are my favorite dish EVER, but I didn’t always like them, especially when I was younger. The reason for me not liking them when I was younger was only because the chile was too hot for me. My parents are hardcore chile lovers, so basically, the hotter the better!

If you don’t know what Hatch Green Chile is don’t feel bad because from what I’ve heard, not many people outside of New Mexico and surrounding areas do. (Hatch Green Chile is the official name)  It is seriously a big deal here.  We eat…
