My Prayer Life Stinks!!??

#Simply~ChasingJesus;ByPaula's avatarChasing Jesus

Or Does It?

I felt my prayer life stunk. So I began a self quest of reading prayers on website after website. Why couldn’t I say to Jesus some of the prayers that I see online or the meaningful ones I share on my posts? on my own. Why Couldn’t I come up with beautiful prayers on my own?

It bothered me, I began to feel inadequate during my talks with Jesus, especially my bedtime talks. You see, I talk with Jesus as if you and I were sitting across the table having coffee and talking throughout my day. I do the same at bedtime.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God

Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

So here’s what I came up with.

We pray because it’s the most personal way to experience God. It’s our own…

A Morning Prayer

THE WRONG VIEW

Child Of God's avatarFrom The Darkness Into The Light

This entry is part 3 of 16 in the series Have Faith

Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do the people say that I am?” and after hearing their response, later asked his disciples the question directly to understand who they believe him to be. Jesus asked this question because as king of kings, he was about to promote his disciples to the position of power in his kingdom, but for his disciples to effectively fulfill their office, they will need to have complete confidence in Jesus Christ.

It was important for the disciples to know who Jesus truly was, God’s promised Messiah who…

FACING DEATH

This entry is part 11 of 16 in the series Have Faith

It was not lost on Jesus, not all friendships were the same, some are built on commitments, others are built on the support we can receive from each other. But as we look at Jesus and the type of relationship he has with us, we can say some relationships are built on what we can give to others. And in the case of Jesus and his disciples, this was the relationship he was having with them.

Jesus had something he was willing and wanted to give to all his disciples, but…

More Than a Ghost

INSIGHT FOR STUDENTS

Verse: Acts 3

The best proof that Jesus is alive

Acts 3:15“You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.”

“He looks as if he’s seen a ghost!” What image comes to mind when you hear that? A face drained of blood, a trembling jaw, pasty skin and thin lips, a look of terror.

Seeing a ghost doesn’t make a person stronger and more confident. The witness is usually reluctant to talk about the experience. Self-doubt attacks in waves: Was it real? Maybe I was hallucinating… It was so dark and eerie.

A Convincing Change

When Jesus showed up after his death, his disciples went through a Did-we-see-a-ghost? phase, complete with terror, disbelief and wild rumors. But it didn’t last long. In 40 days Jesus made enough undeniable appearances to convince each of his disciples—even skeptical Thomas—that he had indeed…

Nature Walks – Gone Walk-About

ajeanneinthekitchen's avatarA Jeanne in the Kitchen

I just love where we live.  As I have mentioned many times, we live on the top of 6 “lakes” or ponds, and then behind that, we have a big huge opens space area too.  Even though we live in a suburb or both Denver and Boulder, we are very blessed to have a lot of nature all around us.  With all this current chaos and craziness, about all we can do is walk, so we are doing a lot of walking.  Vinnie is absolutely loving it, every step of the way too.  Poor Lucie can’t do long walks any more, so she stays at home and protects the homefront, eagerly awaiting our return.  Here are the sights we took in from our latest walk-about around the lakes.

This is our view from the bottom of our 4th lake.

Nature Walks – Magpies, Turtles and More

ajeanneinthekitchen's avatarA Jeanne in the Kitchen

In my little neck of the woods, I have a wide variety of landscapes all in one, which means there is a wide variety of wildlife as well.  I have the lakes, which gives us all the ducks, geese, and various other aquatic birds, turtles and fish.  After the 4th lake, depending on what direction we go, we either venture into the open space, giving us the prairie dogs and non-aquatic birds or back around through the marshy areas and more lakes.  The open space flows directly into open “prairie land”, that then takes us into the creeks, giving us more ducks and geese.  And all of this is right in my backyard too.  All of this makes it sound like we live out in the “whoop whoops” as my dad used to say, but we are really right off a major street that is a heavily traveled route, taking…

Nature Walks – The Birds

ajeanneinthekitchen's avatarA Jeanne in the Kitchen

Aside from all our big, beautiful water birds, like our ducks, geese, pelicans, herons, egrets and cormorants, we also have a wide variety of beautiful small birds too.  The things we see most are the swallows, sparrows, robins, spraques, doves, magpies, red-winged black birds and orioles.  But we have many other types of beautiful small birds too.  I try to capture them all on the camera as much as possible, but often times they are just too quick for me, and as soon as I get them in focus, they fly away.  This happened the other day when we saw this beautiful bright yellow bird that we had never seen before.  I tried and tried to get him in my sights, but could not do it.  I will keep trying though.  Here are some of our small birds that we call friends and neighbors too, that I have been able…
