Let’s Get REAL! | Part 1 cont…

RLMamishauthor's avatarRachel L. Miller

In my first LET’S GET REAL! post, I shared a photo with you…

This photo is at the heart of many of my issues… and let me tell you why.

I am not a small person. I am what would be considered “short” by most people, but that only makes my weight more visible. If I were six feet tall, the weight would be distributed very differently – but I am 5’4″.

God made me to be 5’4″ tall. I do not believe he made me to weigh over 300 pounds.

And therein lies the problem.

There are two elemental truths that I am reminded of constantly.

1. God made me – and He loves me.

2. Beauty is only skin deep.

However… there are deeper truths that must also be considered.

God made me – but I refuse to believe I was designed to weigh what I do. That…

Anti-bullying, and remember: you could become someone else’s bully

Ais's avatarThe Inner Workings of an Ais

I received this message at tumblr, and after I posted my response I decided I wanted to add it to my blog as well– both so it wouldn’t be lost, and because this is something I believe very strongly that will never change. Wow, thank you so much for pointing that out! I hadn’t seen it before and it was amazing! Since I think everyone should watch it, here’s the video:

I love the message in it, and that it stands for anti-bullying. I really like how it talks about the different parts, how something small can become something so…

So I was looking at pinterest for different photography things and saw a 30 day picture challenge that I’m going to do because it thought it would be fun. The picture challenge is also gonna double for my picture a day (kinda cheating but hey, that’s okay haha). Day 1 is a self portrait and today me and my boyfriend went out to lunch and then went to the duck pond (will post pictures tomorrow) and before hand I got ready and really liked my makeup and decided to use this photo. Later on in the day I downloaded an app that does double exposure stuff called Diana Photo and really loved this photo. Even though it looks like I have a nose ring, I really don’t. I over layed a picture of me over a picture of flowers and it placed under my nose. But this app is great…

Shadows of Myself

Broken Light: A Photography Collective's avatarBroken Light Collective

Please welcome first-time contributor Anne, a 42-year-old divorced mother of two. Anne has dealt with post-partum depression after the birth of her first child, unemployment, a second child and subsequent divorce a couple of years later. Since then, she has found herself dealing with depressive episodes, made more acute by the solitude of her mono-parental situation and the absence of her family of origin in her surroundings. When facing a depressive episode, she finds it very hard to speak up. Photography, painting, and writing have becomes an outlet for these silent, voiceless screams.

About this photo: “While on a walk on the Brooklyn beach front, the heavy wind was picking up the sand, and the silhouettes of people moving towards Coney Island resonated with this feeling of being a shadow of myself.”
