“Zombie bike ride.”

Ever since I retired to Fort Myers, in 2012, many locals recommended I attend the Fantasy Festival in Key West Florida.

I had heard of the festival while living in the DC metro area along with the two Daytona Bike Weeks one in the spring and again in the fall along with the many jokes identifying Florida as Gods waiting room because of the volume of retirees.

Based on what I was told about the festival, I was not excited or intrigued to attend with reported crowds in the thousands, and constant nudity visible throughout the event.

What many who spoke of the festival were not aware is my history with large crowds in the DC metro area, where I attended events on the National Mall like the fourth of July celebrations, concerts in the parks, and many other significant events where I was among three or five hundred thousands…

“2018 Key West Fantasy Fest.”

Before I created this blog post, I took time organizing my thoughts to shape the narrative for the photos I captured during the 2018 Key West Fantasy Festival. I was ambivalent because none of the images represent any form of wildlife, wilderness landscapes or US National Parks.

Since I began my nomadic travels around the US, I have captured photographs of the natural essence of the National Parks, Monuments, landmarks along with some hiking and mountain biking locations. Uniquely all of those locations I visited were filled with natures sounds of silence.

So, my time in Key West during the Fantasy Fest was at times overwhelming with the volume of people, cars, traffic, and the noise.
Oh yes, the noise was such a drastic change from the solitude sounds of Yellowstone, Crater Lake, or the deserts of the southwest.

Now, let’s be honest. The 2018 Key West Fantasy Festival is…

“Traveling nomadic during a world pandemic”

Arizona Desert with Saguaro cacti in the distance.

Two months ago, I was preparing to backpack portions ofArizonaand thePacific Crest Trails. By mid-March, the trail administrators closed all hiking trails demanding everyone leave due to theCOVID-19 World Pandemic.

Their concerns surrounded the health and safety of volunteers, trail angles, trails towns, hostels, and all supporters who may encounter hikers. Many such organizers are volunteers who provide rides, and small towns do not have hospital infrastructure to deal with hikers who may carry the virus.

The small communities have a valid point, as I know most hikers like me do not shower for days and to enter a town emitting odors just below the scent of rotting corpses, I could not blame them.

I continued monitoring state and federal officials as I isolated in the Arizona desert upon Bureau of Landmanagemt Lands, also known…

YOUTH SUICIDE – AN OPEN SECRET

Suicide means the act or an instance of taking one’s own life voluntarily and intentionally. Youth suicide is when a young person, generally below 24 years of age purposely takes his/her own life. It is one of the most prevalent causes of death among young people and sadly, one of the least talked about. There is no easy way to describe depression. It is like an abyss or more like a black hole, a bottomless chasm which swallows one in their entirety.  Depression drives a person to such depths of darkness that it is impossible to find a way out without help. It traps one within the confines of their own mind and drives them to take the extreme step.

India has one of the world’s highest suicide rates for young people and the maximum occurs in the age group 14-29 (40 per 100,000 people). According to WHO, the…

The Star Gazer

DISCLAIMER- this piece is based on the tragic demise of an actor whose death hit me very close to home for some very unknown reason. I did not write this to disrespect the deceased or be intrusive but I literally could not control my pen when I sat down to write it. This is what I wished should have happened instead of what did.

The day that you bought me was the best day of my life. You probably just clicked a few times on amazon without knowing that you chose me. I felt my box being hauled off on what was probably an airplane. I’ve never flown before, in fact i have never stepped out of this cardboard box. I reached my new home in a couple of days and i saw you grinning excitedly while signing the reciept from the tiny crack in my box. I coudn’t wait…
