In reflecting on my own writing style lately I noticed I use quite a few similes.
I love them like a bear loves honey.
I use them like a chef uses salt to improve the meal.
I find them so useful to improve my writing and help keep it interesting. I wonder sometimes whether they distract the reader.
Perhaps they ruin the writing like an off note in a song.
Maybe they are unneeded like an umbrella on a sunny day.
But regardless, they tend to find their way into my writing and are simply part of the style I developed over many years of writing…
Like a fruity note in a wine
or like a tree that slowly bends towards the sun…
ok, fine, you get it.

John 13:15 “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.”
It was just before the Passover feast. Jesus and his disciples were in the upper room for what was the last supper. Although the disciples did not know what was about to happen, Jesus did. What did He decide to do in these final moments with them? He displays his love, humility and servanthood.
John 13: 4-5 “So he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciple’s feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.”
Feet washing is not something we are accustomed to nowadays, but in those times, walking everywhere on dusty roads and reclining on a low seat for your meals made it a…

It is winter here and although it does not get cold enough to snow here in Perth, temperatures in single digits (Celsius) makes us want something warm and comforting for dinner.
I wanted to make something with a mix of veggies in it, and not too heavy. When I looked in the fridge and realised I had quite a few odds and ends left over from previous meal preps (I had made some Mexican themed burritos earlier and had left over corn and beans from it), I decided to use them and add in some other veggies I had in the fridge and ended up making this. It turned out much better than I expected. My husband and son gobbled it up and that is a win for me. So, I thought hey! why not put it up in my blog.
The measurements in this recipe are going to be…

Acts 11:26b “The disciples were first called Christians at Antioch.”
I identify myself as a Christian, but have noticed that over the past years have always leaned towards further clarifying that I am a “follower of Jesus”. As I reflected on my insistence on elaborating what kind of Christian I am, I realised that it does stem from experiences and interaction with people both within and without my family circle who identify themselves as Christian but are far from reflecting any Christ like behaviour in their everyday life. And I found that when I gave my life to Jesus and comprehended what it means to live for Him in response to His grace and love, I did find myself always eager to ensure that I clarify there is a difference in calling oneself a Christian and living one’s life as a Christian in a biblical sense.
In Acts 11:26 we…

Nyt olen saanut laululleni On My Own Path laulajan.

On My Own Path |
I’m not the one they say I am. |
I have never been | Я никогда не был |
What they’re saying. | |
| I am somebody nobody knows. | |
And now I’m leaving all this behind. | |
On my own path I hear how | На моём пути я слышу как |
The golden fairy sings |
The silver ballad to me.

I have heard that Finns are grave people who don’t know how to make fun, but let me show the other side of the coin.
Violinist Pekka Kuusisto brings his homeland to the Prinsengracht with the Finnish folk song ‘Piupali Paupali, Piupali Paupali’, where everyone can sing along.

And if you get wild, you can perform the song like this
J. Karjalainen sings the song.
If we look at our song a little more closely, I notice that it contains much more than what Pekka Kuusisto says in his introduction in…
