growing rice in a drought??? that rice cannot possibly be price competitive with rice from nearly any foreign source!!!! and they also mentioned the costs of putting in deep water wells…and the investors…to summ it up…there are nearly no small farmers in cali!!! so why are these farmers doing this AND surviving??? they get subsidies, price supports…lots of fancy words for welfare…THEY GET PAID TO FAIL!!!! the US government buys these products they can’t sell and they get redistributed as food aid for prison and jail systems…”payment in kind” food aid to states and also through USAid programs…and they destory the ecostructure and move on…yet scream loudly how the “welfare moms” and drug addicts are destroying the US…they don’t want us to see how the powerful and large investment firms are doing more harm…there really ain’t that many small farmers in the US…conagra, amd, and general mills benefit greatly from the price controls programs administrated by the US government.
