These are the real heroes, but the guys with jerseys never made themselves into heroes. We as society tell our children to be them and we hold them to a standard. Military guys are the real heroes. Because what do athletes do that is truly heroic; nothing really. But if we use military in advertising and marketing instead of sports, it is the people who will get angry. People who will assume that pop culture is being used to recruit males and females as soldiers. So as much as we give these men and women kudos for their good deeds, we still sway our children away from being soldiers.
