I tried to kill myself in the early months of this year
I didn’t then and still don’t now, realise the full magnitude of that decision. But if you asked me what happened, I could clearly tell you the voice of the man on the emergency line and the first words I uttered to the medic. In fact, it went like this:
Him: “What are you doing out here, mate?”
Me: “Oh, you know – the usual.”
Seriously? Did I seriously say that? At 3 in the morning, in a short-sleeved top and yoga pants, I had the decency to crack a joke?
As much as I could tell you what happened that night and on the ride to the hospital, I couldn’t for my life…
