LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR

Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.Matthew 5:42

The second part of the Great Commandment (Luke 10:27) is“Love your neighbor as yourself.”Jesus then tells the story of the Good Samaritan. In this story Jesus defines our neighbor as anyone in need of help. This kind of love is very practical.

It was the middle of winter and the elderly Christian in prison had a badly infected ear. He thanked God that he had been able to keep his fur hat affording him some protection from the biting cold. At least he had a pillow at night.

One day one of his cellmates asked him for his fur hat. The Christian had been willing to share food with his cellmates, but felt he could not give up his hat…

First Lines Friday: April 3

bookscoffeeandpassion's avatarBooks, Coffee & Passion

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?  If you want to make your own post, feel free to use or edit the banner above, and follow the rules below:

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page

  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first

  • Finally… reveal the book!

FIRST LINE(S)

I hate First Friday. It makes the village crowded, and now, in the heat of high summer, that’s the last thing anyone wants.

Do you recognize the book?

Summerween Readathon TBR

bookscoffeeandpassion's avatarBooks, Coffee & Passion

Summerween is hosted by Gabby from GabbyReads and Olivia from Oliviareadsalatte. It’s a week long readathon dedicated to reading horrors and thrillers in the summer, it runs from August 24th-30th. I’m craving Halloween so hard, that I couldn’t resist to participate but I’m also a chicken so things can go very wrong. Let’s hope I’ll manage it without being scared to death.

The Challenges

1. Read a book with a creepy cover

36124936. sy475

I’ve had The Outsider on my physical TBR for almost a year. My mom got it for my birthday last year and I never pick it up because this cover creeps me out. It was literally the first book I remembered when I read the first challenge!

2. Read a paranormal/supernatural book

Another physical book that’s been on my TBR for almost a year. I checked it on Goodreads because I wasn’t sure if it was…

No Fooling (Oh and…)

I am doing a new experiment with an old retailer.

Smashwords, based in Los Gatos, California, is an e-book-distribution platform founded by Mark Coker for independent authors and publishers. The company began public operation in 2008. Wikipedia

Okay maybe Smashwords isn’t that old but it is older than my Indie Adventures.

So, here’s the deal. Smashwords has a publishers option to let the reader decide the price they are willing to pay for a book as in: “You set the price!”

Yep! You can pay $0.00 or $1,000,000,000 for a book. It’s up to you. And I have made that option available for all of my titles with Smashwords. Seriously. No fooling.

Man wouldn’t that be cRaZy nice if someone dropped a million bucks on one (or all) of my books. Woo-hoo! I would be like, (happy dance ensues)

“Yo fans and frenz it’s party at my place.” We would…

Bat-Shit Crazy & Indie Update

Janna Hill's avatarThe Real Janna Hill in

Can you believe it has been 4 years since I posted The First Year as an Indie (Lessons Learned)?

So much has changed… yet stayed the same.

I have created new works and destroyed old ones.

I have watched literary markets as well as loved ones come and go.

I pretty much left the ‘pertinent’ social media scenes. Why? For a few reasons, just pick one or make one up – that’s always fun.

New authors have asked, “Did decreasing media presence hurt book sales?”

My answer: “Laws yes! But you know what? I still do not give a flying rat’s fanny.”

I am sorry if that’s not the ‘right’ answer but it is my answer… my truth.  That is the beauty of being an independent author.

Another truth is I was in “an unhealthy state of dealing with stress” – that is a sophisticated way of saying I was…
