Where Do Nightmares Come From

Gottfried's avatarBanter Republic

Everyone hates getting flashbacks from things they don’t want to remember. That’s why you need to delete memories. Complacency is the mother of all nightmares. All nightmares are real. Believe in everything until it’s disproved. So believe in fairies, myths, and dragons. It all exists, even if it’s in your mind. Who’s to say that dreams and nightmares aren’t as real as the here and now? Monsters don’t live under your bed, they live inside your head.

Only happy people have nightmares. From overeating. There are people with repetitive nightmares. What happens is you’re stressed. Then your brain tries to deal with the stress. As your brain tries to anticipate the stress and deal with it, the stress becomes so scary you’re awoken from it. That’s why you keep getting chased by a giant donut. And you wake up screaming “don’t eat me!” All this while your brain is…

The Waiting Game

Gottfried's avatarBanter Republic

We’re all waiting for something. All things will come to the person who waits, provided they know what they’re are waiting for. My advice, never keep anyone long and don’t wait too long. Waiters and quitters have just a slight difference but a common end. Waiting for the movie to start before eating your popcorn is the hardest thing ever. Especially when it’s coated in caramel. The hardest part about making dinner is waiting for the delivery man.

Waiting is still an occupation. It is having nothing to wait for that is terrible. Waiting and hoping are the whole of life, and as soon as a dream is realized it is destroyed. Waiting is a sin against both the time that is still to come. Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle. Waiting is not mere empty hoping. It has…

Failure isn’t Fatal

SaaniaSparkle 🧚🏻‍♀️'s avatarSaania's diary - reflections, learnings, sparkles

Nothing good is ever given to us easily. When we are on the verge of something, there is always a chance for failure as there is for success. In fact, most of the times, things never go perfectly as planned!

I often look back at the times I wasn’t doing too well at school. I moved countries and was finding it exceedingly difficult to catch up on all of the work I had missed. This was simply devastating for me because I had never seen myself going through this before, ever. I was always regarded as a great student.

The more I let myself feel the overwhelming anxiety of failure, the worse things seemed to get. But over time, the more I pushed myself to bounce back again, the more I saw how the whole world began to help me. My teachers helped me, my friends helped me, my parents…

The Power of Positive People

SaaniaSparkle 🧚🏻‍♀️'s avatarSaania's diary - reflections, learnings, sparkles

Our happiness is not just a personal experience, it is often passed on to the people around us. It’s almost like when a pebble falls into the water causing ripples around it. In a similar way, our words, our actions, and our behaviours affect the ones around us, who in turn affect the ones who come into contact with them, and so on.

I can think about how my own mood is influenced by the lady at the Starbucks drive through who smiles, is happy, and is kind versus the one who is bitter, miserable, or rude. In both situations, a complete stranger’s attitude has the power to impact my own! And I now may pass it on to my friends, my parents, and the people around me.

While our emotions shouldn’t be at mercy of other people, our mind is something we do and can have control over…

The Language of Friendships

SaaniaSparkle 🧚🏻‍♀️'s avatarSaania's diary - reflections, learnings, sparkles

In times of crisis and struggles, we all want someone to turn to. Relationships are important, and therefore friends are important. The word ‘Friendship’ doesn’t quite fit into a single definition, it’s a relationship that cannot be described using words.

Even though I am not a social butterfly, quality counts more for me than quantity does. While it’s good to cultivate a diverse network of friends and acquaintances, I have nurtured a few true friendships over the years.

When I find myself going through a hard time, my friends help me get through it. When I find myself not feeling good about myself, my friends are the ones who lift me up. When I find myself in between sobs, my friends are the ones who make me laugh. When the world turns its back at me, my friends are right there by my side. True friends are the ones who…

A Very Un-American Coup..

maxpowerbooks's avatarMaxpower's Blog

What really matters…

There are two days in the year when we cannot do anything. Yesterday and tomorrow.  Forgive me for plagiarising Mahatma Gandhi, but those words are appropriate in these times. It is impossible to ignore the recent events in America. It is unsurprising that George Floyd died in the manner that he did. It is of course shocking, horrible and disgusting that any man, let alone a policeman, could do this to another person. Anyone who saw the video of Mr. Floyd pleading for his life as it ebbed away under the knee of another, cannot be unmoved by the horror of his death.  But like I say it is unsurprising, for nothing surprises me now when it comes to a country that has fallen so far from a place to envy, to a place to pity.

Once there were men who spoke up and they spoke up…

On being fabulous…

maxpowerbooks's avatarMaxpower's Blog

Oh, to be Mr. fabulous. You know the type, lives under the illusion that they are just gorrrrrgeous regardless of the state of them. That is one of my favourite Irish expressions, “The state of ye.” It is a great Irish leveller, so when Mr. Gorrrgeous comes into a room with his flowing locks, white shoes and the auld baby blue jumper trun over his shoulders, some woman in the room will quickly say, “would ya look at the state of yer man.” I love it and forgive me the odd phonetic spelling or two above, I was in the zone.

Of course, some might think I’m jealous…oh no! Not me. Many’s the lady has had occasion to say, “would you look at the state of yer man” in reference to me, I can tell ya. I am not one for standing back to step forward, if you know what…
