False Obligations and Abnegation.

Abnegation: the act of rejecting something, in favour of the needs of others.

Obligation: an act to which a person is morally or legally bound.

I’m back again with some more content! So, I had a lightbulb moment this morning and I couldn’t seem to shake the idea!! I mean, it literally wouldn’t leave my mind all day.

Today, I will be discussing false obligations and the act of abnegation – two things I commonly see in vulnerable people. I have written the definition of both terms above, but in order for you to grip the depth of these terms, I will use analogies.

i) Giving up your dream due to the fact that your parents believe you would flourish as a lawyer.*Common amongst middle-class white families and working-class Afr0-Caribbean families.
