I wish all of the distinguished artists of WWII could have been included – here is the final year of the Pacific War…

Pacific Glory” by: Nicholas Trudgian

It is March 1945 and the P-38’s of the 475th FG are involved in a huge dogfight with Japanese Zeros over the coast of Indo-China. Flying “Pee Wee V” is Lt Ken Hart of the 431st Fighter Squadron, who has fatally damaged a Zero in a blistering head on encounter. The second P-38L – “Vickie” – belongs to Captain John ‘rabbit’ Pietz, who would end the War as an Ace with six victories.
Signed by three highly decorated P-38 pilots who flew in combat with the 475th Fighter Group in the Pacific theatre during World War II.

Ordnance P-47 Thunderbolt in the Pacific

WWII painting, P-47 Thunderbolt

The P-47 Thunderbolt was not generally welcomed in the Pacific theatre. It was seen as too clumsy to compete with the very agile Japanese fighters and it did not have the range for operations over the vast expanses of the Pacific. Worse, the P-47 was best at the high altitudes at which American bombers operated over Europe.  However, in Japan most combat occurred below 20,000 feet, where the P-47 was at its least maneuverable.

Despite these problems, General George C. Kenney, commander of the 5th Air Force in the SW Pacific, was determined to acquire as many aircraft as possible for his command.  The Lockheed P-38 Lighting was popular with American pilots in the Pacific, but not available in sufficient numbers.

Rakkasans of today.
187th RCT

I WISH TO EXPRESS MY THANKS FOR EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU !!!  AND MAY WE ALL BE THANKFUL FOR THOSE VETERANS WHO FIGHT FOR US !!!

US troops in Afghanistan give thanks.

Thanksgiving during WWII…

They’re celebrating Thanksgiving on this very day,

My thoughts are at home, though I’m far away;

I can see everyone, eating dinner deluxe,

Whether it be chicken, turkey or even duck;

The fellows over here won’t whimper or moan,

They’ll look to the next one and hope to be home.

Truly and honestly, from way down deep,

They want you to be happy and enjoy your feast.

These holidays are remembered by one and all,

Those happy days we can always recall.

The ones in the future, will be happier, I know

When we all come back from defeating the foe.

_______Poem by an Anonymous WWII Veteran

Tomorrow is Halloween, which falls on a Blue Moon (which means that it’s the second full month in one month, it happens so rarely), and when I change my clocks forward, so we technically have an extra hour of Halloween. Yay!

I was tagged by the wonderful Helen, she is a lifestyle blogger, who loves to knit. I enjoy reading her blog, and I think you would, too. Be sure to check it out, here, https://crispyconfessions.com/

Rules

  • Thank the blogger who tagged you and link their post
  • Put the rules after an introduction, then answer the 13 questions

October Wrap Up

I have learned a lot during this month such as big goals can become more manageable when broken into smaller goals. I already knew that, but I applied that into reading, and I was able to read more books this month. That was exciting!

Although unfortunately my ankle feels a bit strange from spraining it last month, so I didn’t get practice doing yoga as much as I had wanted to do this month. Which is okay, because I can always try it again next month.

Overall I think I had a great month. I feel a bit more healthier since I have been starting to go for more walks.

I can’t wait and see what November brings me. 🙂
