Have you ever watched a relay race? As one runner runs the first part of the race, the next runner gets prepared. The runner anxiously awaits his or her teammate’s arrival. They only have a small window to transfer the baton. 

It’s called an exchange zone. 

The race is won or lost in the exchange zone. Even the smallest hesitation or miscalculation can cost the team the race.

Running a relay is a lot like leaving a legacy. The next generation, our children and grandchildren, is ready and waiting, and the baton has to be passed. We only have a limited amount of time to do it. If we fail to pass on our resources and knowledge to the next generation so they can run their leg of the race, they become stranded in the exchange zone.

If you want to outlive your life you have to pass the baton. Pass what you cannot keep to gain what you cannot lose…a legacy.
