Just do it!

Have you ever been standing in the edge wanting to take that leap, taken a step forward and then, just standing there afraid to do it?

I think is best to just hold your breath and do it! You are going to have no option but to start swimming.

Have you ever felt the fear of going the next step in your business, in your career or simply in life?… The fear of stepping out of your comfort zone? The fear of not knowing if it will work?…

That’s exactly  how I’ve felt lately. I’ve been wanting to take the risk and jump. “What if it doesn’t work?” –I tell myself. “Maybe I’ll just wait until I’m ready…”

The truth is that you will never be ready and you’ll never know if it will work, unless you try it! You just have to jump. Don’t be afraid to fail. Be…

Euthanasia Aftermath

I struggled with writing about this situation. I struggled with posting a blog about it. Please try to understand.

A few weeks ago a very good client of mine passed away unexpectedly. She had a little toy breed dog who had been battling some significant but non life-threatening medical issues for the past few years. We had developed a fairly good client-veterinarian relationship and the little dog had gone from being terrified by my presence to being quite happy to see me. I always did have a pocket full of cookies for him after all. Quickest way to a dog’s heart.

I was notified on Wednesday of the woman’s passing and the daughter set up a visit for the coming Friday to have the little guy put down. Apparently, no one in the family could take the dog and with his medical conditions the owner had left instructions to have…

How Did You Fall in Love with Reading?

“Do you have a boyfriend?”

I used to dread this question because it would inevitably lead to my admitting that I never had a boyfriend. This confession would then be followed by the question, “Are you gay/a lesbian?” Huh? No. How does never having been in a relationship equate to being a lesbian? Why would anyone assume that? The first time I was confronted like this I was so shocked. Is society so afraid of being alone/single that it automatically assumes there’s something not quite right about you? (I am neither a homophobe nor do I have anything against gays. Several of my friends are gay and they’re some of the coolest people.) This issue boggled my mind for many years to the point where I started wondering if something was wrong with me. And then, I met many women out there who have never had a boyfriend. Women who have not had their first…

Self Control

thetroyanthony's avatarSurvivalGuide

There are several different forces in our lives that can compell us to act in certain ways. When we are children there are our parents, or grandparents who make us do things like, eat our vegetables or to brush our teeth. When we get a little older we have teachers and school principles to monitor our behavior.

As adults we are in a different situation. While there are bosses at work and social norms that keep some extreme forms of behaviour in check, there isn’t the same day to day set of rules to keep us on track. Let me be clear this isn’t some kind of appeal to authoritarianism, or a longing for more coercive institutions.

I think it’s great that we have the ability to choose some of what we do with our time. I think we should have more control. This leads to the need for self…
