I dreamed I married my ex
but I couldn’t call it a nightmare.
In spite of my tears,
I saw it all so clear.
It was nice,
comforting even,
to see his familiar face again,
to feel the softness of his skin
and to savor the sweetness of his kisses.

It all came running back,
a sprinter in the marathon of pain,
as hurdles of confusion lay forgotten.

I forgive you, I said.
I love you forever, he said.
And just like before,
I wasn’t aware it already ended.
